Apple Announces Multi-Billion Dollar Deal with Broadcom to Boost U.S. Manufacturing

In a significant move aimed at strengthening American manufacturing, Apple has unveiled a new multi-billion dollar deal with Broadcom to develop 5G radio frequency components in the United States. This partnership highlights Apple’s commitment to investing in the U.S. economy and harnessing American ingenuity and creativity.

Under the agreement, Broadcom, a technology and advanced manufacturing company, will be responsible for designing and producing 5G components, including FBAR filters and other wireless connectivity components. It’s worth noting that these components are distinct from the 5G modems manufactured by Qualcomm.

Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We’re thrilled to make commitments that harness the ingenuity, creativity, and innovative spirit of American manufacturing.” The deal with Broadcom is part of Apple’s previously announced commitment to invest $430 billion in the U.S. economy, further solidifying their dedication to supporting American businesses and workers.

The partnership with Broadcom also opens up avenues for investment in critical automation projects and upskilling initiatives, allowing Apple to work alongside engineers and technicians to drive innovation. Currently, Apple already supports over 1,100 jobs in Broadcom’s FBAR filter manufacturing facility in Fort Collins, Colorado.

This collaboration with Broadcom marks the latest phase in the ongoing partnership between the two companies. Last year, Broadcom announced a $15 billion deal to supply wireless components to Apple. By extending their cooperation, both Apple and Broadcom aim to advance the development of advanced wireless technologies and contribute to the growth of the U.S. manufacturing sector.

As Apple continues to prioritize American manufacturing, this deal underscores their commitment to building a resilient supply chain within the United States. While Apple’s supplier list still predominantly includes facilities in Asia, the company has 32 manufacturing locations in America, including Broadcom’s facilities in Colorado and Pennsylvania.

With pressure on American gadget companies to source components and assemble products domestically, Apple’s efforts to bolster U.S. manufacturing are commendable. While the majority of Apple’s products rely on technology engineered and built in the United States, the company remains dedicated to expanding their investments in the country and fostering a thriving future for American manufacturing.
